Creative Writing Files

Hello Slot 1:  Here's an experiment to see if I can link you to my online storage so you can access the documents I've created for your course.  Let me know if it works!  lmcmaster@retsd.mb.ca

Welcome (Back)!

For students new to my classroom for 2011-2012, welcome!  I like to have fun while learning about literature and philosophy, so I hope you enjoy what I have planned for you this year.  To my returning students, glad to have you back (or at least most of you:  jk!)
This year I hope to use this space to share files as well as news, so that if you missed notes etc. you can access links to them here.  Exactly how that will work is still up in the air, possibly in the cloud ;)  Stay tuned!

Whew! Registration is Done!

So glad that Registration Day is done.  It was exhausting for the teachers (nice day off, kiddos) but really great to get it all accomplished.
Grade 10 IB students are done their Amazing Race.  Congratulations to the winners:  first place, $5 gift card for the caf (thanks, Ms. Laurie!); second place, 5 day guilt-free extension (courtesy of me!)  Next up is The Book Thief for day 1 students, with blogging, and Media Literacy for day 2 students, focusing on Social Networking.  Do YOU send 1500 texts a month?

Grade 11 TOK students are starting to grapple with "truth".  Just a simple, non-complicated concept.  Did you know that the meaning originated with "tree"?  Look it up; really interesting.  We will be watching "The Truman Show" as we get ready to meet Rene Descartes.  Time to climb back up the slippery slope!

Diploma students will receive training for the Extended Essay in April, followed by a visit to the University of Winnipeg library in May.  They'll then be set up to begin writing in the summer.  Yep, that's right, the summer!

Welcome to Room 34!

Grade 10 IBs are working on the Romeo and Juliet Amazing Race, and will not have any homework at this point.  Next up is either The Book Thief blog for day 1 students, or the Social Networking Unit for day 2 students.  Students may be able to use their smart phones in class.  Mrs. Melissa Cole will be working with my slot 1 classes.  Stay tuned for upcoming due dates.

Grade 11 Theory of Knowledge students are well under way in the investigation of what it means to know.  We either have begun, or will begin shortly, our first graded Socratic Circles.  Remember that attendance is really important for both preparation and assessment (and I'm SO grateful G4 is over:  aren't you???)

Report cards are coming up in mid-March.  Continuing students will have a grade, new students will have a comment only.
